About us

Eletron is a tablet PC for autistic and ADHD children and young adults

Our story

Eletron is a personal journey for us. Our daughter was diagnosed with high-level Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at just three years old. She is a happy, humorous, and kind little girl with a bright and inquisitive mind. Her unique way of seeing the world constantly inspires us to think differently and approach challenges with creativity and resilience.

From an early age, she gravitated toward devices around the home - tablets, phones, and other technology - finding comfort and entertainment in them. We soon realised she needed a device of her own, but after trying numerous existing solutions over a few years, we concluded that there wasn't a device that truly addressed the needs of neurodiverse users. Too often, frustrations caused by things not working as expected would escalate, leading to intense dysregulation. Parenting has shown us that neurodiverse children need tools specifically designed to support the way they understand and interact with the world.

Drawing on our backgrounds in computer science, software engineering, cognitive science, and education, we set out to create something new: a better tablet PC, not just for entertainment but also for learning, relaxation, and self-expression.

We knew this would require an ethical, best-in-class approach to meet the needs of vulnerable users. It also meant achieving a better balance - mitigating excessive screen time, eliminating undesirable content (including advertising), and providing straightforward parental controls to reduce stress for families.

To bring our vision to life, we've partnered with industrial designers, occupational therapists, technology firms, and other software developers. We continue to work closely with parents, guardians, and teachers of other neurodiverse children to ensure that Eletron meets their requirements and addresses their own challenges.

Children grow and change quickly, as do their needs, so Eletron is designed to evolve alongside them. Its hardware is built to last for years and is chosen with durability and performance in mind to avoid the need for frequent replacements. Our users will benefit from ongoing software updates that keep their devices fresh and functional, whilst interchangeable protective cases allow for personalisation as preferences change. Sustainability and adaptability are at the heart of what we're creating.

We believe every child deserves a computing solution that empowers them, and we're proud to play a part in making that possible.

Our mission

Eletron is designed to be a best-in-class special needs tablet PC, sometimes referred to as an SEN tablet, providing a frustration-free touchscreen experience for children who find mainstream devices overwhelming.

Frequently asked questions

Eletron has been carefully planned and designed with the specific needs of neurodiverse users in mind. It prioritises features such as durability, adaptability, and sustainability, with long-lasting hardware and ongoing software updates. It includes a customised mobile operating system that's built on Android 14, which has been engineered to improve performance and accessibility, to only deliver vetted and privacy-rated content, to eliminate advertising, and to reduce digital 'noise', creating a calm and supportive computing experience.

Our solution also features sensory-friendly themes, adaptable remote parental controls, and an expert-designed protective case that can be quickly changed to suit the user's mood or desired style.

Absolutely. Eletron is built on high-performance hardware designed to last for years, ensuring it can handle the demands of modern apps and tasks. Eletron's operating system is optimised for speed, responsiveness, and reliability, offering a seamless experience that we believe exceeds mainstream tablets, while being tailored specifically for neurodiverse users. A full list of features can be found on our homepage, and we will be publishing the results of performance tests in due course.

Yes, but in a safe fashion. The device retains most of the common features of Android and remains compatible with the apps and content that you are already familiar with, ensuring continuity. Every app available on Eletron is vetted and rated in terms of privacy and suitability, giving peace of mind.

We utilise a technique called sandboxing to test application behaviour and content, ensuring undesirable events do not happen, such as sending sensitive user information to a third-party. If a user has a specific request to install an app that is not currently available on our platform, we are more than happy to run it through this process with a view to making it available to them, if it's advisable to do so.

Our remote parental controls can also be configured to ensure that the user must ask permission from their parent or guardian before installing new app content.

This has been one of the most interesting challenges to solve in our project to date. At no stage do we wish to encourage or promote excessive use of mobile devices during childhood or adolescence. However, we are also considerate of the fact that neurodiverse users rely on this type of technology - to aid their daily lives, to develop a routine, to communicate, and to filter out noise and sensory triggers in unfamiliar environments. They also desire a reassuring space which is 'theirs'.

We've worked with numerous education and support professionals to implement a system of gradual transitions between activities, but without including countdown mechanisms, which can induce nervousness and upset. These mechanisms are still being refined, but we think we're almost there - striking a healthy balance between what the user both needs and desires, and ensuring that technology remains an assistive tool rather than a source of stress.

Further, many of the pre-loaded applications on the Eletron device have been engineered to reduce information overload by adopting best practices in terms of user experience design, and filtering out unnecessary content by default.

Our ongoing market research is still informing the final recommended retail price, but rest assured that the device will be priced in-line with other mainstream tablet PCs of a similar specification. In fact, because device performance is a key consideration in this case, we aim to slightly exceed the specification of other devices at a similar price point (in terms of responsiveness, battery life, and storage capacity).

We are actively engaging with as many stakeholders as possible via our online survey, whose feedback will be invaluable in ensuring we make the technology available to as many users as possible.

In order to reduce the initial purchase price of the device, and to support ongoing platform development, we are considering offering enhanced parental controls, certain content, and access to a supportive community for families and educators via a (monthly or annual) subscription. However, this will be entirely optional and will not impact the core functionality of the device. We aim to keep the cost of this as low as possible too - lower than most content subscriptions - and again, this will be informed by our research. Please do request access to our survey to help us understand your own requirements and expectations.

We're based in the UK and are aiming to launch the device in our home market in early 2026.

Our initial production is being guided by our market research, but we anticipate producing 1000 devices initially for our home market, following successful outcomes from beta testing. If you're in the UK, you can reserve a device now - no financial commitment is required at this stage and we'll contact you to confirm the details of your order at least 21 days before it is shipped, before requesting payment via our website a few days before shipment.

Once formally launched, the Eletron device will be made available to purchase via our website, as well as through a number of popular online retailers and distribution partners.

Subject to the success of our product in the UK market, we'll be aiming to launch to the European Union in the middle of 2026, and to other parts of the globe towards the end of 2026. This takes slightly longer due to operating system language updates, further testing, and navigating regional legislation.

If you're not in the UK and wish to try the device out sooner, then please contact us to start a discussion, and we'll do our best to help.

We provide comprehensive customer support, including troubleshooting guides, a help centre, and direct online assistance for technical issues.

Our device is also covered by a 2-year warranty.

Although we have designed our device to be as robust as possible, we realise that accidental damage can still happen. We will offer an optional insurance policy to cover accidental damage, with a replacement device delivered to your door within 24 hours. Should a device need to be replaced, we've built our infrastructure to ensure that existing content and settings are preserved and can be transferred to any replacement.

We are currently investigating how broken devices can be repaired and then gifted to those most in need.

In certain cases, yes - this may be possible. Unfortunately, we're only able to comment on the UK region at the moment.

If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in place, it may be possible for you to apply for funding to subsidise this type of assistive technology for them. You are likely to be asked to accurately demonstrate the need for it. Unfortunately, we cannot give guidance on funding - it's best to speak to the Local Authority who issued the child's EHCP directly. We are, however, happy to assist you in demonstrating how the Eletron tablet PC would benefit your child.

Certain charities may also have distributable funds for this type of technology, from time-to-time. Although we cannot advise on this directly either, it may be worth doing a little research to see what's currently available. Of course, should you need us to provide further details on why Eletron is a suitable choice, we'll be more than happy to do so. Please contact us with your request.

We are planning to operate a user support forum for families and educators to share tips, resources and experiences. Once this is live, further information on funding should be accessible there.

Yes. We realise how valuable Augmentative and Assistive Communication (AAC) can be to any neurodiverse user, especially those who are non-verbal. We are not a specialist provider of AAC technology - many solutions already exist at a price point well above the Eletron tablet. Rather, we've developed a generic computing platform that aims to be a better solution for neurodiverse users than mainstream alternatives, upon which AAC can operate.

Our solution already includes features like text-to-speech and the ability to visually convey schedules using both icons and photos. AAC apps that can run on Android, such as CoughDrop, LetMeTalk, Spoken, Leeloo, Avaz, and many others, can also be installed and used (subject to compliance with security and privacy policies).

We hope to integrate our own AAC solution into the Eletron platform one day, although we believe getting the computing foundations right in the first instance is the correct approach.
